Career

Pelkonen started training figure skating in 2010 at the age of 5 in the Koovee figure skating school in Tampere. Koovee head coach Minna Järvinen was impressed by her attitude and enthusiasm right from the beginning, and Pelkonen was quickly moved to higher level groups.[3] Pelkonen stayed with Koovee up until the summer of 2023 and being coached by Järvinen and Christina Wendelin, achieved gold in junior Finnish championship, silver in senior Finnish championship[4] and won the Nordic championship.[5]

In the summer of 2023 Pelkonen transferred to Tappara FSC and is now being trained by Susanna Haarala. Pelkonen had decided on the club change earlier that year, seeking to get new insight and momentum into her training. The results during fall season 2023 proved this to be a successful move. Minor adjustments yielded better balance for training and rest, and training related injuries that had previously prevented her form gaining full potential have now subsided.[6]

Pelkonen is noted for her versatility as a figure skater. She is a skilled and mature presenter, her jumping technique is elegant and economical and she is superb in arc skating and pirouettes.[3] Pelkonen is motivated by tough competition, and she is described as extremely demanding towards herself, even stubborn when it comes to training.[3][6]

Pelkonen was chosen to Finnish Figure Skating Association's junior national team in 2019,[7] and she has been a member of the senior national team since 2020.[8] She has represented Finland in the 2020 Youth Olympics in Lausanne, being 14th in singles competition and fourth in mixed team competition as a part of the Team Determination.[9]
