American writer, director and producer

Morgan Evans is an American writer, director, and producer. Evans is known for writing the film Merry Little Batman for Warner Bros. Animation[1] and his web series The Untitled Web Series That Morgan Evans Is Doing, which was nominated for a Writers Guild Award in 2013.[2] He is currently a writer for the Cartoon Network series Teen Titans Go![3]

Career

Evans began his career directing videos at The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre.[4] He directed early web episodes of Broad City and It Gets Betterish.[5]

Writing and directing

In February 2012, while working at The Onion,[6] Evans released The Untitled Web Series That Morgan Evans Is Doing on Vimeo. The series received critical acclaim, with Luke Kelly Cline of Splitsider writing that "New York filmmaker Evans has given us a fearless and idiosyncratic look into the familiar yet intangible machinations of life, the dimly lit little spaces between hope, excitement, disappointment, and uncertainty."[7] Indiewire named it one of the best web series of 2012.[8] It was nominated for a Writers Guild Award later that year.[9]

In January 2013, Vh1 announced a reboot of the series Best Week Ever with Michael Che, Adam Conover, and Ali Wong set to star. Evans served as a staff writer for the first season of the new series.[10][11]

In July 2013, Evans was hired by MTV to write, host, and produce the Teen Wolf After After Show, a comedic variety series centered on the MTV series Teen Wolf.[12][13]

In July 2014, MTV announced they had picked up a second, eight-episode, season of The Untitled Web Series with Evans, Neil Casey, Ian Roberts, and Abbi Jacobson set to appear.[14] The series premiered in October 2015 at the New York Television Festival.[15] Evans received a Cynopsis Digital Media award for his acting in the series.[16]

In August 2023, it was announced that Driftwood, a Cartoon Network original feature film penned by Evans, had been canceled three months after being greenlit due to the recent Warner Brothers Discovery merger.[17][18]

In 2022, Evan began writing episodes for the Cartoon Network series Teen Titans Go!.[19]

Merry Little Batman

In April 2023, it was announced that Amazon had picked up the film Merry Little Batman from Warner Bros. Animation, with a script written by Morgan Evans. A spin-off television series was announced at the same time.[20] In October 2023, it was announced that the film would premiere globally on December 8, 2023 on Amazon Prime.[21]

In writing the film, Evans focused on the emotional connection between an overprotective Bruce Wayne and Damian, the son he had with supervillain Talia al Ghul.[22]

Upon release of the film, the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes reported an approval rating of 95%, based on 19 reviews, with an approval rating of 7.8/10.[23]
