The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has 239 member colleges and universities for athletic competition in the 2023–24 season.[1]

  1. Women's only institution in undergraduate programs, therefore it does not compete in men's sports.
  2. UBC and Victoria hold concurrent membership in Canada's governing body for university athletics, U Sports, where their basketball teams compete.
  3. UC Merced will start a transition to NCAA Division II in July 2024, joining the California Collegiate Athletic Association, pending NCAA approval.[2] However, it will remain an NAIA member in the 2024–25 school year before starting full NCAA competition in 2025.
  4. Georgia Gwinnett will add men's and women's basketball in the 2025–26 school year.
  5. When IUPUC's parent institution of Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis splits into two separate institutions at the end of the 2023–24 academic year, administration of the former IUPUC will pass to the new Indiana University Indianapolis. IUPUC will change its name to Indiana University Columbus, with an athletic branding of IU Columbus. The nickname of Crimson Pride will not change.
  6. IUPUC will add men's and women's basketball in the 2024–25 school year.
  7. Jamestown will start a transition to NCAA Division II in July 2024, joining Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, pending NCAA approval. However, even if they are approved, they will remain an NAIA member in the 2024–25 school year before starting full NCAA competition in 2025.
  8. Jessup, Menlo, and Vanguard started a transition to NCAA Division II in July 2023, joining the Pacific West Conference. However, they remain NAIA members in the 2023–24 school year before starting full NCAA competition in 2024.
  9. Middle Georgia will start a transition to NCAA Division II no later than July 2025, joining the Peach Belt Conference, before starting full NCAA competition by that time.
  10. Ohio Christian will start the transition to NCCAA Division I in the 2024–25 school year.
  11. Point Park will start a transition to NCAA Division II in July 2024, joining the Mountain East Conference, pending NCAA approval.[4]
  12. Roosevelt started a transition to NCAA Division II in July 2023, joining the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.[5] However, it will remain an NAIA member in the 2023–24 school year before starting full NCAA competition in 2024.
  13. Texas A&M–San Antonio will add men's and women's basketball in the 2024–25 school year.
  14. The women's basketball team uses the nickname Flying Queens.
