The Ven John Russell Walker , MA was an eminent ^[1] Anglican priest^[2] in the last third of the 19th century.^[3]

He was born in Bury on 18 June 1837^[4] and educated at University College, Oxford.^[5] He was ordained in 1863 and was Curate of Middleton^[6] and then Walmersley.^[7] The following year he married Augusta Margaret Hornby of Poole Hall, Nantwich.^[8] He was appointed a Canon of Manchester Cathedral in 1870 ^[9] and then of Chichester in 1874.^[10] In 1879 he became Archdeacon of Chichester,^[11] dying in post ^[12] on 31 October 1887^[13] after a short illness.^[14]
