International Museum of Muslim Cultures
Islamic history and culture museum in Jackson, Mississippi
The International Museum of Muslim Cultures is "America’s first Islamic history and culture museum".[1] It was established in April 2001, in Jackson, Mississippi in what is now the Arts Center of Mississippi.[2][3]
The museum was co-founded by Emad Al-Turk and Okolo Rashid in response to the perception of Muslims in an exhibit at the then Mississippi Arts Pavilion. What was intended as a temporary exhibition became a permanent museum as of May 2002.[4] It also celebrates the contributions of Jackson's own Muslim population.[5]
