Gavkhuni-ye Shomali Rural District (Persian: دهستان گاوخونی شمالی)[lower-alpha 1] is in the Central District of Varzaneh County, Isfahan province, Iran.[3] Its capital is the village of Qurtan.[4]

At the National Census of 2006, its population (as a part of the former Bon Rud District of Isfahan County) was 6,833 in 1,760 households.[5] There were 7,208 inhabitants in 2,074 households at the following census of 2011.[6] At the most recent census of 2016, the population of the rural district was 7,930 in 2,400 households. The most populous of its 24 villages was Oshkohran, with 1,463 people.[2]

In 2021, Bon Rud District was separated from Isfahan County in the establishment of Varzaneh County, which was divided into two districts of two rural districts each, with Varzaneh as its capital and only city.[3]
