As of April 18th, 2024 this school board unanimously voted to cancel Maulik Pancholy appearance to read his book "The Best At It" to students at Mountain View Middle School. The book is about anti-bullying, inclusion, and identity. It is based on a gay character. The school board chose to reduce the book to a single aspect.
The faculty at Mountain View Middle School condemned the boards decision stating in part "As a public school, it is our responsibility to serve the entire community. No one should be made to feel that who they are is less than anyone else.". Many are asking the board to reconsider or resign immediately.
