Access is provided via Clarke Street and the Pacific Highway.[3] The station is located 25 metres underground.[4] Crows Nest railway station was constructed by AW Edwards.[4] The design includes nine escalators and five elevators.[3]

In 2021, plans were released for three buildings of up to 21, 17 and nine storeys to be built above the station.[5] The initially planned buildings for the site were deemed inappropriate with residents concerned about overdevelopment.[5]
