Central District (Sarpol-e Zahab County)

District in Kermanshah province, Iran


The Central District of Sarpol-e Zahab County (Persian: بخش مرکزی شهرستان سرپل ذهاب) is in Kermanshah province, Iran. Its capital is the city of Sarpol-e Zahab.[3]

At the National Census in 2006, its population was 81,428 in 18,233 households.[4] The following census in 2011 counted 85,193 people in 21,600 households.[5] At the latest census in 2016, the district had 73,942 inhabitants in 20,359 households,[2] by which time Jeygaran Rural District and Sarqaleh Rural District had been transferred from Salas-e Babajani County to the Central District. Qaleh Shahin Rural District had been separated from the district in the establishment of Qaleh Shahin District.[6]

After the census, Dasht-e Zahab, Jeygaran, Posht Tang, and Sarqaleh Rural Districts were separated from the Central District to form the new Dasht-e Zahab District, with the newly established village of Kuik as its capital.[7]
