Anis Shorrosh (Arabic: أنيس شروش; January 6, 1933 – May 13, 2018[1][2]) was a Palestinian Evangelical Christian author, speaker, and pastor who published many books and debated with Muslim author Ahmad Deedat.[3][4][5]

Biography

Born in Nazareth, he became a refugee in Jordan during the Arab-Israeli War, and later came to the United States with the help of missionaries.[6] He received two degrees from Baptist seminaries, including a doctorate.[7] Shorrosh graduated from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1959 and later received a Doctorate of Ministries from Luther Rice Seminary and a Doctorate of Philosophy from Oxford Graduate School.[8] Shorrosh served as a pastor and evangelist in the Middle East from 1959 to 1966.[8][3]

Shorrosh's 1988 book Islam Revealed presents "armed Jihad and violence as central to Islam".[9] In all, Shorrosh's authored ten books, including Tas well The Liberated Palestinian, The True Furqan; Jesus, Prophecy, and The Middle East; and Islam; A Threat or A Challenge.[8] Shorrosh was the translator of The True Furqan, which he said was intended to challenge the Quran. Shorrosh translated the book to English from Arabic.

In September 1995, Shorrosh was guest lecturer at NCI Bible College, Auckland, New Zealand. In the years 2004–05, he held a tour around the world, giving lectures and holding debates.[10] In 2001, he lived in Fairhope, Alabama.[11]

On Friday, May 2, 2008 he was arrested and charged with first degree attempted arson for allegedly burning tax records of his religious organization in an attempt to set his building on fire.[12]

Shorrosh, age 85, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2018 at Providence Hospital in Mobile, Alabama.[8]
