Template talk:Did you know/Approved

This page holds approved nominations that are waiting to appear in the "Did you know" section on the Main Page. Following DYK approval, nominations are processed and moved into a Prep area, and from there, prep sets are promoted to a queue, and then to the main page.

Instructions for nominators

This page is for those nominations that have already been approved and are waiting to be promoted. If yours has been approved but has not yet been run on the main page, it should either be on this page or will soon be moved here, or already promoted to a Prep area or Queue ahead of an appearance on the main page.

If you wish to create a new nomination, please go to the Template talk:Did you know page; there are instructions there in a section similar to this one on how to nominate an article for DYK.

Frequently asked questions

Backlogged?

This page is often backlogged. As long as your submission is still on the page, it will stay there until someone promotes it to a preparation area. To alleviate this problem, if the approved page has more than 120 approved hooks, then sets will change twice per day (every 12 hours) instead of once per day (every 24 hours). When the backlog falls below 60 approved nominations set frequency returns to once a day.

Where is my hook?

If you can't find the nomination you submitted to the nominations page, and it also isn't on this page, in most cases it means your article has been approved and is either in one of the prep areas, has been promoted from prep to a queue, or is on the main page.

If the nominated hook is in none of those places, then the nomination has probably been rejected. Such a rejection usually only occurs if it was at least a couple of weeks old and had unresolved issues for which any discussion had gone stale. If you think your nomination was unfairly rejected, you can query this on the DYK discussion page, but as a general rule such nominations will only be restored in exceptional circumstances.

Instructions for other editors

How to promote an accepted hook

  • See Wikipedia:Did you know/Preparation areas for full instructions.
  • In one window, open the DYK nomination subpage of the hook you would like to promote.
  • In another window, open the prep set you intend to add the hook to.
  • In the prep set...
    • Paste the hook into the hook area (be sure to not paste in that that)
    • Paste the credit information ({{DYKmake}} and/or {{DYKnom}}) into the credits area.
    • Add an edit summary, e.g., "Promoted [[Jane Fonda]]", preview, and save
  • Back on DYK nomination page...
    • change {{DYKsubpage to {{subst:DYKsubpage
    • change |passed= to |passed=yes
    • Add an edit summary, e.g., "Promoted original hook to Prep 3", preview, and save

How to remove a hook from the prep areas or queue

  • Edit the prep area or queue where the hook is and remove the hook and the credits associated with it.
  • Go to the hook's nomination subpage (there should have been a link to it in the credits section).
    • View the edit history for that page
    • Go back to the last version before the edit where the hook was promoted, and revert to that version to make the nomination active again.
    • Add a new icon on the nomination subpage to cancel the previous tick and leave a comment after it explaining that the hook was removed from the prep area or queue, and why, so that later reviewers are aware of this issue.
  • Add a transclusion of the template back to the nominations page so that reviewers can see it. It goes under the date that it was first created/expanded/listed as a GA. You may need to add back the day header for that date if it had been removed from the nominations page.
  • If you removed the hook from a queue, it is best to either replace it with another hook from one of the prep areas, or to leave a message at WT:DYK asking someone else to do so.

  • Will be claiming this for review and hope to finish it within the next few days. For what it's worth, the conversion from a redirect is confirmed. My preference for the hook is ALT1. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 08:56, 7 April 2024 (UTC)
The article is confirmed to be new and long enough. QPQs have been provided. I did not find close paraphrasing. As stated earlier, ALT1 is the more interesting hook, but I would suggest delinking chess to limit the number of links in the hook and because chess is already well known. I also don't think the link to the Supreme Court is necessary either. As for ALT1 itself, it is sourced to a mix of accessible and offline sources. However, the link you provided in the nomination does not mention his involvement in Kagama, and while I'd normally assume good faith it would probably be nice to include a quote or excerpt on this pace confirming his involvement. In addition, the part about him being a chess polymath, while mentioned in the article, lacks a footnote in the relevant sentence. This should be good to go once those issues have been sorted out. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 11:33, 8 April 2024 (UTC)
@Narutolovehinata5 Actually the source does allude to Kagama which is clear because of the details it gives which match the case. Spinrad says, "At age 23, he was a rising legal star. Before he turned 30, Redding won a case before the Supreme Court of the United States, which had important legal ramifications on limits of Federal Laws. Redding defended an Indian accused of murder on his reservation, arguing that reservations were not subject to the jurisdiction of the United States and that the matter should be decided by tribal law. Winning a case before the Supreme Court put Redding among the elite lawyers of California." Regadless if you looked in my cited references list you would see an entire source with a highly detailed account of Kagama with particular discussion of Redding's winning argument: Sidney L. Harring, The Story of United States v. Kagama, in Indian Law Stories 150 (Carole Goldberg, Kevin K. Washburn, & Phillip P. Frickey, eds., 2011); Weiner. I also point you to the FA class article on United States v. Kagama where Redding is discussed. If people want to learn more on the case and what Redding did they can always go to that page. There's not a viability problem here.4meter4 (talk) 00:23, 9 April 2024 (UTC)
No worries, I didn't suggest I was doubting the source, I was merely asking for clarification since I had no access to the source (even the Worldcat source is inaccessible to me) and I just wanted to be sure. However, the issue with the chess polymath thing will still need to be addressed. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 00:30, 9 April 2024 (UTC)
@Narutolovehinata5 I unlinked chess and United States Supreme Court as you suggested. I added a redundant citation after the sentence for the polymath fact; although I think it was pretty clear the entire paragraph was cited to that one article. The hook fact was also cited earlier in the lead with inline citations after each sentence. 4meter4 (talk) 00:36, 9 April 2024 (UTC)

Overall: Dcdiehardfan everything is really good except the hook needs work. Creating a five mile highway for a single scene of a single episode of a TV show is quite something, also currently the hook reads like the episode title is the name of the series or movie. I'd suggest something like ..... that the production team of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier TV series created a highway over five miles long to capture visual effects for a truck action sequence for the episode "The Star-Spangled Man"?

I haven't seen the show so I don't understand the signifcance of the birthplace of Martin Luther King Jr, if this could be explained more clearly in the article and hook that could be an option but currently it just sounds like a random fact. The development section mentions that the series deals with race once but this isn't clear how or mentioned in the hook Source: https://www.vfxvoice.com/taking-flight-with-the-falcon-and-the-winter-soldier/ John Cummings (talk) 11:07, 9 April 2024 (UTC)

@Favre1fan93: and @John Cummings: Thank you both for your responses. I accept Favre's ideas, and went ahead and will propose my own slate below, as I still want to retain some elements across while also incorporating the feedback. I liked the MLK Jr reference as I felt it would appeal to the general public, but I better understand the concerns since I'm not sure if I can concisely describe that context, I think I'll nix it for now and use 5m-highway as the main hook, if that's ok with Favre. I choose Favre's Star Spangled Man as my new 2nd, but still want to stick with my Hobbit one. So my ideal slate is looking like this (obviously subject to change and a WIP):

    • To be honest, I really don't understand the main hook or ALT1. Why are "giant" and "make" in italics? It kind of looks like the word order got scrambled. Pinging Gobonobo in case this is an accident that passed unnoticed. Oh , my bad, it's a joke, I didn't read the comment. Long enough, new enough. ALT2 short enough, interesting, and AGF sourced (shame about the other two). No neutrality issues found, no maintenance templates found. There's one quote in the article which is two paragraphs, only one of which is cited; I say it's obvious that the cite covers both, so I would pass this, but for the presence of single-sentence paragraphs which should be expanded per WP:DYKCOMPLETE.--Launchballer 10:42, 19 April 2024 (UTC)
@Launchballer: I've added a reference to the first half of the quote and moved a sentence. I'm not sure which other paragraphs strike you as not DYKCOMPLETE, I think the only single-sentence paragraph now is the one on legality. I could find no other (reliable) sources addressing legality, though I think it worth mentioning that it is banned in South Korea. gobonobo + c 16:10, 19 April 2024 (UTC)
Looking at the source, that could easily be expanded. I wonder if it's worth knocking it and the paragraph together into a general 'Usage' section?--Launchballer 16:42, 19 April 2024 (UTC)
I could use some clarification. I'm not sure which paragraph you are referring to or which source. Is the issue a matter of how sections/paragraphs are arranged or is there an aspect that is not reasonably complete? This source mentions the 2005 ban in South Korea but makes no mention of legality in other countries. gobonobo + c 17:51, 19 April 2024 (UTC)
I did mean that source. What I meant was that the source says "According to a report, South Korea alone imported over 8000 kg of mad honey from Nepal during 2003–04 and then, further import was banned by the Korean government in 2005." The 'imported over 8000 kg' bit could go into the article. I'm not holding the nom up for it though, and given that I've merged it into the above section myself I can pass this.--Launchballer 15:42, 21 April 2024 (UTC)

    • Re Earwig's comparison of Harrogate War Memorial: it only picks up proper names and a quotation beginning "one of the first British servicewomen...", which is properly signified as a quotation, and attributed in the article. As far as I am aware, there is no poor paraphrasing or copyvio in that article. Storye book (talk) 09:40, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
    • As I understand it, isolated, short, common phrases are de minimis, and do not count as copyvio. No big-ass lawyer hoping to make his fortune off us would pick on that one. it would cost him money when it got laughed out of court. However, just to keep the peace I have rephrased it for you. Storye book (talk) 15:20, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
    • ALT1: ... that Harrogate War Memorial (pictured), by Ernest Prestwich, names 1163 casualties of the First and Second World Wars, of whom 300 have unknown graves, and the youngest was 15 years old? (source as ALT0 above).
    • I have removed the dodgy numbers from the article. The plaques were removed, rewritten and replaced in 1948, and who knows whether they have been corrected (or just misread) since then. The name-counts were probably all correct in their day. Harrogate Civic Society counted them last, and they had two people spending five years on the study of all the war dead mentioned, ending in 2023, so they have the best chance of being up to date and correct. Thank you. Secondary (but significant) issue: the sourcing seems to be heavily biased into one direction, and while I’m not familiar enough with the specific topic to actually confirm or deny errors or incompleteness, it would probably be beneficial to look for other sources in English or Hebrew just to improve the article further before using it for a DYK. Also, according to the article, it is one village, not necessarily the village of their specific ancestors, so we should have a new hook too. FortunateSons (talk) 23:27, 8 April 2024 (UTC)
Hi @FortunateSons: the lede and body of the article are based solely on three academic sources of the highest quality and neutrality – an article in Geografiska Annaler and two monographs published by Stanford University Press and Cambridge University Press. All the rest of the sourcing relates to the list of events – this is just a list of dates and locations, so I don’t see any room for bias. Please could you clarify your concern, so it can be addressed? Onceinawhile (talk) 20:27, 9 April 2024 (UTC)
Hi @Onceinawhile: You’re right, I assumed that they were used similarly to the Arabic article without checking, sorry about that. While the heavy reliance on one source [3] is not ideal, it appears to be of such high quality that it is probably appropriate even on a controversial topic, unless some indication to the contrary should emerge. I think not including the list cited heavily on AJ Arabic is a worthy consideration, but probably optional. Did you have a chance to give some thought to my comment about the hook? FortunateSons (talk) 21:00, 9 April 2024 (UTC)
    • Should the hook make clearer that many participants are marching to sites of ancestral displacement, from which they themselves were not displaced? Zanahary (talk) 23:45, 10 April 2024 (UTC)

@FortunateSons and Zanahary: thanks for your comments. Does the below work? I agree with both your comments: "sites of ancestral displacement, from which they themselves were not displaced" and "it is one village, not necessarily the village of their specific ancestors". The shortest-form way I could think of was using "their community":

    • Article upgraded to GA-status. However, the hook is mentioned in both introduction and in the investigation section with mention as "personal notoriety" rather than "trolling". However, I am with assumption that both have the same meaning and hence, the article is good to go. - Toadboy123 (talk) 09:53, 8 April 2024 (UTC).
FWIW, They're two different things, but the "trolling" bit is mentioned only in the March 2016 FBI section. The personal notoriety part was mentioned by the sheriff in the post-shooting investigation.
The part in the article where this same information is put is this: "He convinced FBI investigators that he was simply "trolling", and that he was "not the type to actually do any of this stuff". Cited to the same source for the first half of the sentence, which is the relevant part. PARAKANYAA (talk) 09:57, 8 April 2024 (UTC)

Interesting life and work, on fine sources, offline sources accepted AGF. The hook works for me. The image is licensed and an excellent illustration not only of the person but also the period at a glance. I have a few points about the article that you may consider, irrelevant for DYK.
      1. Her name. I would not call her Kimball until she is married.
      2. I would - as you know - whenever a composition has an article, mention the composer only by last name without link, to avoid two links in a row, and to link the more specific thing. People who really don't know Rossini can find that in the Stabat Mater article, - Stabat Mater as a standard Latin phrase like Magnificat not needing italics.
      3. GSL - I would link to Großes Sängerlexikon, - as written, with the two authors, it sounds as if two people had arrived at the same view independently. I strongly recommend to use the actual link to page in the latest edition.
Kutsch, K. J.; Riemens, Leo (2012). "Kimball, Agnes". Großes Sängerlexikon (in German) (4th ed.). De Gruyter. p. 2380. ISBN 978-3-59-844088-5.
      4. I have a hard time with the wording "They had one daughter together" - why not "They had a daughter"?
      5. Second image: I'd find it better on the right side, making her "turn in" (the posture rather than the eyes), and use standard upright size.
      6. I am not sure that "beautifully conducted" is the right term for "schön geführt" talking about voices, but am too unfamiliar with such technical terms in English to recommend something better.
Again thank you for much detail about a forgotten singer! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:18, 10 April 2024 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt Thanks for the review Gerda. I incorporated most of your suggestions. In terms of the translation of "schön geführt" would "beautifully executed" be a better translation than "beautifully conducted"? You are after all a native German speaker.4meter4 (talk) 15:09, 10 April 2024 (UTC)
Yes, I'm a native German speaker, but unfamiliar with the terms to describe voices in English. "geführt" suggests "in control" and an even production of lines without register breaks, but is there one word for it in English. I heard "gut geführt" more often than "schön geführt", btw. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:42, 10 April 2024 (UTC)
I think "beautifully controlled" would be a fine translation for English speakers. I've made that change per your input.4meter4 (talk) 15:47, 10 April 2024 (UTC)

      • Article is just barely long enough, but satisfies other requirements. I don't see any copyvio or outstanding issues (though I would recommend adding a second sentence to the lede). The hook checks out in its current state, but I think it's a bit excessively in length. How about something like "... that after failing to qualify for prestigious races, Mounir Akbache became a rabbit?" I think you can make this a great quirky hook by playing on the rabbit line without actually explaining what that is. Makes people wanna click to learn more. Generalissima (talk) (it/she) 06:42, 9 April 2024 (UTC)
@Generalissima, thank you for your feedback.  Done I expanded the article lede, and edited the hook (only part I added onto your suggestion is the phrase "as an athlete" to emphasize the distinction between running solo vs as a rabbit, but you are free to remove it if you think it's awkward). --Habst (talk) 10:05, 9 April 2024 (UTC)

Sitdown strikers in the 1937 General Motors strike in Flint Michigan
            • ... that there were 583 sitdown strikes in the United States from 1936 to 1939, affecting over a half-million workers? Source:
            • US Department of Labor, Division of Industrial Relations (May 1939). "Analysis of Strikes in 1938". Monthly Labor Review: Table 16.
            • US Department of Labor, Division of Industrial Relations (May 1940). "Strikes in 1939". Monthly Labor Review: 28-29.

Source 1 states: "The number of sit-down strikes in 1936, 1937, and 1938 by months, with the number' of workers involved, is given in table 16."

Table 16 lists the same numbers of strikes given in source 2 below. It lists workers involved as follows: 1936: 87,817 1937: 398,117 1938: 28,749

Source 2 states: "In 1936 there were 48 so-called sit-down strikes. In 1937 the number increased to 477, but by 1938 they decreased to 52. There were only 6 strikes during 1939 in which all or part of the strikers remained at their workplaces for one or more days after ceasing work. he number of workers idle in connection with these 6 strikes was 3,416, although the number participating in the sit-down or stay-in feature is not known."

This sentence involves a very encyclopedic form of synthesis in that it adds numbers from two consecutive studies by the same source. Similar synthesis, but without inclusion of the latter number appears in Sidney Fine's book Sitdown, cited in the article.

            • QPQ not needed, expansion is recent and article is long enough. Hook is properly sourced. However, Earwig detected a 43.2% similarity. Before I pass this nom, I think it would be suitable to trim down some quotes, if possible. Davest3r08 >:3 (talk) 22:33, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
I've reviewed the Earwig similarity report, which highlights passages that are either in quotes or comprise part of citations (including the journal name and another cited article). The longest passage is the summary of the Matignon Agreement, a quotation I don't think I can improve upon. I've revised the article to reduce the amount of material directly quoted from Torigian and from Adamic, but keep Adamic's longer definition and Torigian's POV that the mid-1930s strikes were a distinct phase of using the tactic. Let me know whether you think these changes sufficiently reduce the reliance of direct quotations.--Carwil (talk) 13:29, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
FYI, here's the Earwig similarity report with bibliography temporarily removed.

            • Article is newly 5x expanded and certainly long enough. The majority of sources used are either peer-reviewed academic journal articles or books from respected academic publishers, so I have no issues with accepting offline sources in good faith. The dated sources (1931/1943) are used sparingly and in appropriate context. Earwig returns no likelihood of copyright violation, although as noted a number of sources are offline. The article is well written and I see no neutrality issues - assessments of his actions are appropriately attributed to sources and contextualised. Possibly some additional commentary from modern writers could be included in the #Legacy section at some point, but this is not critical for the DYK nom. The hook is interesting – you had plenty to choose from – and reliably sourced as per the quote. The images used are correctly licensed, and QPQ is done. Thanks User:Generalissima for bringing this article on a significant historical figure up to scratch - I would see this as needing very little work to get it to GA/FA status if you would like to pursue a nomination. It's a little bit of a gray area, but in terms of new articles, it's when it moves from draft space. Trickier on a 5x expansion, not sure if the guidelines are exactly a monument to clarity. My suggestion in he future is to copypaste into your sandbox, expand, and then move it over in one fell swoop. Will give you more time. Montanabw(talk) 16:25, 24 April 2024 (UTC)

              • Comment 4meter4 I was amused by "the very best people" in Alt0. I had something like Alt2 in mind in case an alt was needed. Alt1 could possibly be shorter, hopefully I got the legal jargon right. The picture is slightly skew, it would be nice to rotate it if it went to main page. TSventon (talk) 13:22, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
              • @4meter4, I was just giving my opinion, I am happy for Sammi Brie to choose whatever she likes. On the larger picture, the black border at the top slopes, which suggests that the scan could be skew, but damage could also be involved. TSventon (talk) 13:52, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
              • It probably is a skew issue, probably for paper damage, which might be fixable especially for this crop. The image is acceptable in license. New ALT1 is fine (AGF). ALT2 is fine and checks out to source. I don't like the wording on ALT1 with "Pennsylvania" twice. 4meter4, I had to make a lot of small copy tweaks to the large addition that was made; you should read MOS:DATECOMMA. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 17:47, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
@Sammi Brie Thank you for the copy edit. I appreciate your help. As for the wording... this isn't a case of improper word redundancy. There isn't a way to remove the word Pennsylvania as the proper names of both these organizations include that word. The University of Pennsylvania is the University of Pennsylvania, and the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania is the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. If we remove the word Pennsylvania from the university it could be any university rather than the well know Ivy League school. Likewise, if we remove it from the court, readers would likely assume it was the national Supreme Court and not a state Supreme Court. I don't see any way of rewording this without it ending up in Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors and loosing 'hookiness' for lack of a better word.4meter4 (talk) 18:12, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
I agree—it's redundant and looks off but is needed to avoid obvious confusion. It's kind of why, if I were a promoter, I would skip it. But I want the promoter to choose the hook. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 18:25, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
That's fair. The wording may read awkwardly to some people even if it is technically a necessary redundancy. I personally would pick it anyway because I believe it is the most interesting fact (to me anyway) among the hook choices. I guess it depends on whether one prefers style or substance (not that the other hooks are lacking substantive value).4meter4 (talk) 18:36, 22 April 2024 (UTC)

Overall: Looks good. Nice work @Launchballer:. Only question: if there is a branch still open (article makes it seem like Greater Manchester branch is open, only West Disbury closed), shouldn't the article say "Greens is a restaurant" rather than "Greens was a restaurant"? BeanieFan11 (talk) 00:38, 17 April 2024 (UTC)

I'd be inclined to say no, on the grounds that the West Didsbury branch is the one with virtually all of the coverage, and that's the one I've written about. I've amended the article to that effect.--Launchballer 06:50, 17 April 2024 (UTC)
I agree that it makes sense that the West Didsbury Greens is the subject. Presumably a new team was recruited for Sale, so the owners have a less hands on role. I think it would be useful to add something like "the Sale restaurant is still open as of 2024". TSventon (talk) 11:38, 17 April 2024 (UTC)
I worry that such a statement would fall foul of WP:As of, but I have reworded it to the effect of 'the Sale restaurant outlived the Didsbury restaurant'.--Launchballer 11:48, 17 April 2024 (UTC)

              • Not a review, and I review oldest first so would not get to this any time soon (but would not object to any other editor reviewing this in the interim); if ALT2's "penciled, inked, lettered, and colored by Jim Steranko, making it" somehow manages to survive WP:DYKTRIM, none of "penciled, inked, lettered, and colored" should be linked per WP:SEAOFBLUE.--Launchballer 18:42, 21 April 2024 (UTC)
                • I'm fine with de-linking those instances if that's the case. Morgan695 (talk) 20:47, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
              • I'm guessing the first hook is meant to say "dispute between himself and Stan Lee"? PanagiotisZois (talk) 12:31, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
              • Will perform the review. Have a mild interest in the article, and just found out Jim Steranko did concept art for Coppola's Dracula; what a nice coincidence. Anyway
                • The article is new enough, having been created only about 8 days ago, which is when this nomination took place. It also has the appropriate length, being very in-depth, and well-sourced; most sources are offline from books, but I'm assuming good faith, especially given the nominator's track record. It is very much presentable, and has three images; one is the writer-artist and is CC, while the other two are the cover of the last issue of this story and an example of Steranko's visual style, which is brought up in the article itself, making them both appropriate.
                •  On hold All of the hooks are present in the article itself and properly cited. Finding the best one is somewhat tricky, as there's what the nominator finds most interesting, what I find most interesting, and what will help the article achieve the most views. Hook #3 is mildly interesting as you have the primacy effect, but I don't think it will hook many people in, so it's the other two. Either one could work, but I'm leaning more with Hook #1, mostly because it also references Stan Lee, which is a name that will attract views. The mention of a "dispute" between them is also kind of juicy. Admittedly, I found the full context behind their "dispute" kind of boring (lol), but at least the hook did its job. Unless @Morgan695: has a different hook to suggest, the only thing remaining is the QPQ. PanagiotisZois (talk) 23:19, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
                  • @PanagiotisZois: Thanks for taking on this review. I've already done a QPQ, so if that is the only outstanding concern than this should be good to go. Morgan695 (talk) 04:48, 24 April 2024 (UTC)

Overall: Everything checks out, but I don't think just the fact that she directed, wrote and acted in a leading role is interesting. What would be more interesting, in my view, is saying that it was her first time doing any of these things (at least from what the article says — "Chuk also served as the film's director, marking her directorial, scriptwriting, and acting debut in a feature film.") I believe this could be added to the hook to make it more interesting. Skyshiftertalk 21:02, 16 April 2024 (UTC)

Article well-sourced, neutral, BLP-compliant, and copyvio-free; only pings on Earwigs are for some properly attributed quotes. QPQ has been completed. Overall: The guideline WP:INTEXT advises that In-text attribution may need to be used with direct speech (a source's words between quotation marks or as a block quotation)... It seems DYK allows leeway for this not to be in the hook, but a reader should be able to see in the article where the quote came from. It also avoids the appearance of a WP:SCAREQUOTE. Alternatively, is paraphrasing an option? I don't have access to the source; is it possible to provide a relevant excerpt here for review? Otherwise, I'll WP:AGF. —Bagumba (talk) 11:20, 19 April 2024 (UTC)

@ZKang123: Thanks. It's a nice metaphor to quote (and I'm not creative enough to offer a paraphrase). If the in-text attribution is added to the article, this should be good to go.—Bagumba (talk) 15:08, 21 April 2024 (UTC)

@ZKang123: Sorry if it wasn't clear. I meant that the article needed in-text attribution added as to who said "dribbles down". I'm neutral on whether it needs to be in the hook or not. Regards.—Bagumba (talk) 10:17, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
Oh I see. Will fix that haha. Ok, done.--ZKang123 (talk) 10:19, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
@ZKang123: In the snapshot of the source you linked above, "dribbles down" wasn't quoted. Wouldn't that mean that those specific words should be attributed to Zhuang and Soh, the source's authors?—Bagumba (talk) 10:33, 22 April 2024 (UTC)

                  Edited accordingly.--ZKang123 (talk) 12:48, 22 April 2024 (UTC)

Approved. @ZKang123: It seems that Soh was a photographer and not listed as an author, so I tweaked the attribution to Zhuang only. Feel free to modify if I'm wrong.—Bagumba (talk) 15:58, 22 April 2024 (UTC)

Overall: @Relativity: Nice work. ALT0 is good. I'm not sure ALT1 works however as the source only says that it is Arnold's only monument on American soil whereas the hook seems to apply to all American traitors. I also thought of another potential hook that might be decent: ... that a boot is the only monument in the United States to traitor Benedict Arnold because it "was the only part of Arnold not to later turn traitor"? That would require another reviewer, though. Let me know what you think; but ALT0 is good to go. BeanieFan11 (talk) 15:54, 17 April 2024 (UTC)

Overall: (CC) Tbhotch 07:03, 18 April 2024 (UTC)

A new article that is barely long enough. The hook is interesting so is the galaxy's shape. QPQ unrequired and there are no copyright issues with the online sources. However, there are sourcing issues. The lead includes multiple statements that are not present in the body of the article or that the source that is supposed to cite them doesn't mention them.

                  • It has an elongated and flattened shape, with a maximum diameter that extends for approximately 2,700 light years.
                  • The new stars are distributed in about ten groups and have a mass corresponding to about one million solar masses.
                  • The starburst is believed to have begun approximately one million years ago following the galaxies' encounter with a filament of intergalactic gas.

After that, the following statements lack an inline source:

                  • "It has also been informally called the Rocket Galaxy or the Firework Galaxy due to its "trail" structure and brightness at the head."
                  • "The Skyrocket Galaxy was discovered in 2004 using the Hubble Space Telescope, and was further observed in February and July of 2015 with the Wide Field Camera 3. Further research is ongoing by the European Space Agency."

Additionally, and not part of the DYK review, the article should probably be called Kiso 5639 instead since "Skyrocket Galaxy" is just a nickname and the present sources prefer the former, including NASA. (CC) Tbhotch 07:03, 18 April 2024 (UTC)

                  • Everything has been fixed, I'll move it back to Kiso 5639 in a few minutes. Thanks, MemeGod ._. (talk) 12:17, 18 April 2024 (UTC)

Overall: This review is for the original hook. Created on April 19th, 4199 characters of prose. Earwig shows no plagiarism or close paraphrasing. Issues with sourcing of hook, neutrality in one section, and a factual issue with who made the terrcotta. Found5dollar (talk) 19:14, 20 April 2024 (UTC)

@Found5dollar: Thank you for the review. I edited the section about the imposter which now reads " The theater hired a doorman who said he was oscar award winning actor and boxer Victor McLaglen, but he was an imposter. Victor McLaglen exposed the man as a fraud and revealed that the man was actually his brother Leopold McLaglen". Changed the terra-cotta bit, the actual source language is "a great deal of the design credit must be given to the terra-cotta supply company in Chicago." So my error was in thinking it was a company rather than a generic random supply company- I fixed it. Regarding the hook citation it is correct and the information can be found in the first paragraph of the source. Lightburst (talk) 23:01, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
@Lightburst: the article now seems neural to me and the factual issue was corrected. Unfortunatly that cite calls it a "woman with butterfly wings" not a "butterfly." I'd suggest either changing the source or changing from claiming it is a butterfly to "a woman with butterfly wings." --Found5dollar (talk) 21:37, 21 April 2024 (UTC)
@Found5dollar: Seems like we are in WP:BLUE territory. The theater is called butterfly, according to most sources the facade is adorned with a butterfly. It is either a woman with butterfly wings or a butterfly with a woman's body but still a butterfly. I backed it up by adding a Rankin citation to end of sentence. "terra cotta butterfly for the facade, delineated in 1,000 light bulbs and spanning some 27 feet from wingtip to wingtip" Lightburst (talk) 21:55, 21 April 2024 (UTC)
Thank you. this is good to go now. --Found5dollar (talk) 15:00, 22 April 2024 (UTC)

The sharp upper boundary of the clouds suggests that they consist of condensed nitrogen rather than involatile solids like the haze. (p. 873)

                    • Not a review, and I review oldest first so would not get to this any time soon (but would not object to any other reviewer doing so in the interim); both hooks violate WP:NPOV and have been struck. I've also removed one sentence that also violated WP:NPOV, so this is now below 1500 characters.--Launchballer 20:17, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
                      • Given that it is midnight for me (in the UK), I will expand this article and think of a compliant hook ~10 hours from now after my sleep. I may even have to think about a hook that doesn't have something to do with the lo-fi music. JuniperChill (talk) 22:59, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
                      • Done the expansion to at least 1500 characters (can also be 1.5kb), now I am thinking of the following hooks.

For both, the sources came from https://www.eurogamer.net/coffee-talk-creator-fahmi-has-passed-away

No, it can't "also be 1.5kb" - WP:DYKRULES specifies "1500 characters". ALT3 is the better hook, although I'd expect a more merciless prepbuilder to truncate it at "died". Full review needed.--Launchballer 10:45, 23 April 2024 (UTC)

                    QPQ: Done.

Overall: The version of the flag used is free as it isn't taken from the in-game version, so that should be fine. Original hook and ALT1 are the most interesting, but suffer from BLP issues, while ALT2 is more specific but still interesting, and matches with the recent premiere of the series. Waiting for the QPQ to be done for approval. Chaotıċ Enby (talk · contribs) 07:15, 22 April 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for the review, @Chaotic Enby. ALT2 sounds good, I made it incase I wasn't able to use Hook & ALT1. I just added a finished QPQ. B3251 (talk) 21:31, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
After asking around, Hook & ALT1 should be fine on the BLP side (as the person isn't named or anything), so they can be used. Chaotıċ Enby (talk · contribs) 22:00, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for checking. In that case, I would love for either the hook or ALT1 to be used for a more humorous DYK, but if the final reviewer finds issue with them ALT2 is still very open to be used. Thanks! B3251 (talk) 22:06, 22 April 2024 (UTC)

                    • Article qualifies via recently achieving Good Article status. SFNs don't work on this page, but I was able to confirm the hook through the cite in the article itself. Obviously, as a GA about a major figure, it is long enough, well-sourced, and quite presentable. No QPQ is needed—you did this before getting 5 DYKs? Well done. Hook itself is pretty interesting; only suggestion I would give before confirming is specifying British royal family, as many readers would think of other royal families upon seeing the phrase. Date, size, expansion, hook, refs, QPQ, copyvio spotcheck, all GTG. Minor disclaimer: the prose script I use does not count tables and bulleted lists, and without them I see only ~2.5-3x expansion. But there is a new large table (with some advanced features) and a new list, so I am AGFing the 5x claim. PS. I added a single citation needed request to one sentence - I ask the nom to comment here on whether it has been addressed. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 10:15, 20 April 2024 (UTC)

                          • The article has been expanded more than fivefold (more like 20x).
                          • The article is well sourced. I did one spot check and the reference checked out.
                          • The article is written in a neutral and non-promotional tone.
                          • Earwig did not pick up anything.
                          • QPQ provided.
                          • The hook has the right length and is interesting. The part of the hook on him being hired and the quote itself is well sourced. However, I struggle a bit with the part on him being "a critic of the spoils system". I think you rely here on Smith 1981 (pp. 82–83). I see that he criticized particulars of the spoils system there. But whether this elevates him to an outright critic of the system I am unsure. Maybe a weaker statement like "[...] who had criticized the political patronage system earlier [...]" would be more reflective of the source? What do you think?
                          • Thank you for your great work Generalissima! I will approve this nomination if this one quibble is addressed. WatkynBassett (talk) 18:57, 21 April 2024 (UTC)

                          • Article new and long enough with no copyvio detected (Earwig only flags a direct quote). QPQ is completed. Hook fact is inline (lead section), and verified by source (audio transcript). Good to go. Juxlos (talk) 03:42, 24 April 2024 (UTC)

                          • I personally think the first hook is great. It certainly got my attention. The article itself is long, was moved to the mainspace just today, is based on reliable sources, and looks fully complete. My only potential concern is that the hook doesn't explicitly state that it was struck down in court, but I think that can probably be inferred as is. Pac-Man PHD (talk) 08:27, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
                          • Though Earwig found likely copyvio, it's basing that off of a direct quote from the contents of the proposal, an open and free document that is properly attributed to, so it shouldn't be a violation. I think this is all in order. Still, felt it should be mentioned in case the author wants to paraphrase the contents of the proposal or if an administrator takes issue with it. • Yeah as the author I generally don't think quoting the direct ballot title of the proposal is a problem (and imo paraphrasing would be less informative to our readers than seeing what voters saw). Elli (talk | contribs) 09:09, 23 April 2024 (UTC)

                          • Really lovely expansion today, long enough, no plagiarism issues, very interesting hook with a reliable source. Thanks for this! Spaghettifier (talk) 22:43, 24 April 2024 (UTC)

                          • Article length is good, QPQ not needed, article uses reliable sources and passes GNG, WP:EARWIG turns up with no copyvios. Hook is interesting and backed up by source. Overall, good to go in my opinion! Di (they-them) (talk) 22:18, 24 April 2024 (UTC)
