Development

Auditions

Prior to the seventh regular season's finals, preliminary auditions for the kids season were announced, with the first ones taking place in January 2024.[2] Auditions are open to kids aged 6 to 12 years old.

Production

The second kids season aired on January 29, 2024,[3] just two days after the seventh season's finale. This is the first kids season to air on A2Z, the second special season, the third overall season to air on GTV after Duets and the seventh season, the last season to air on Jeepney TV after nine overall seasons since June 2018 (including third season, Celebrity Champions, All-Star Grand Resbak, fourth season; with its new normal, fifth season, sixth season, Duets and seventh season), and the first season to air on GMA Network on April 8 onwards, following the show's debut on the network two days ago.[4]

From March 25 to 30, 2024, Tawag ng Tanghalan Kids did not air due to Holy Week special programming.

Changes

Unlike the first season, which was based on the original version, this season followed a format similar to that of Celebrity Champions and Duets. Furthermore, the judging panel was reduced to three, and the judging criteria were changed back to match from the first season.

Three daily contenders face off for a spot in the weekly finals, where the weekly winner advances to the semifinals, and the winning semifinalist advances to the grand finals (Huling Tapatan). A resbakbakan round was also held to select the two wildcard contestants who will compete in the Huling Tapatan.

Vhong Navarro, Vice Ganda, Amy Perez, Kim Chiu, Karylle, Ogie Alcasid, Anne Curtis, Jhong Hilario and Darren Espanto reprised their hosting roles for this season. Kyle Echarri, Bela Padilla, and Jackie Gonzaga also returned, while Michelle Dee additionally served as a guest co-host in absence of the main hosts.

Meanwhile, Ryan Bang, Jugs Jugueta and Teddy Corpuz did not reprise their roles as gongmasters since this edition does not use the gong element. They also served as guest co-hosts in absence of the main hosts.

Roselle Nava, Jason Dy, Elha Nympha, Annie Quintos, Frenchie Dy, JL Toreliza, Katrina Velarde, Maloi Ricalde, Jamie Rivera, Sheena Belarmino, Jeffrey Hidalgo and Tutti Caringal served as the judges for this season while Christian Bautista returned as a judge after being a guest judge in the TNT Duets finale, with Nava, Bautista, Frenchie Dy, Hidalgo, Caringal, Quintos and Rivera alternating as the head judge or punong hurado. Additionally, John Rex Baculfo and Rita Daniela served as guest judges on April 13, 15, 16, and 20, 2024, respectively. None of the original judges reprised their judging roles for this season.
