Tambaram City Police, officially Tambaram Police Commissionerate, is a city police administration for the city of Tambaram located within the Chennai Metropolitan Area in the Indian State of Tamil Nadu.[2][3][4]

It is the third largest police commissionerate in the state of Tamil Nadu next to Greater Chennai Police and Avadi City Police. The agency executive holds the rank of Additional Director General of Police, which is same as that of the Greater Chennai Police Commissioner.[5]

History

The Tambaram City Police was established through the division of the Greater Chennai Police jurisdiction, as part of the Tamil Nadu State government's efforts to reform the policing structure, resulting in the creation of the Tambaram and Avadi Police commissionerates. On 1 January 2022, Tambaram City Police was formally established by State Government of Tamil Nadu.[6][7][8]

When the Tambaram City Police was initially established, it encompassed twenty police stations from the Tambaram and Pallikaranai police districts.[6][9]
