Selb is well known for its porcelain manufacture, and is the home of the Rosenthal factory, founded in 1879 by Philipp Rosenthal as a family business. In the 1960s the town was the location for an unrealized town development plan prepared by Walter Gropius shortly before his death.[3] It includes Spielberg village, which is regarded as Selb town part.
