The profile of Scotland shows it to have one of the oldest populations of the UK with a median age of 41.5 years, and the lowest life expectancy at birth (75.8 for males and 80.3 for females). Scotland contributed 8% of the UK’s economic output and the unemployment rate was 7.2%
