South African sprinter


Corné du Plessis (born 20 March 1978) is a South African sprinter. Together with Morne Nagel, Lee-Roy Newton and Mathew Quinn he won a silver medal in 4 x 100 metres relay at the 2001 World Championships in Athletics. Their time of 38.47 seconds was a South African record.[1] Earlier in the season he won the bronze medal in the 200 metres at the 2001 Summer Universiade.[2]

Following the ruling of 13 December 2005 which retroactively disqualified Tim Montgomery and henceforth the American team, the South African team were promoted to gold medallists.[3] Du Plessis won another relay gold medal with South Africa at the 2008 African Championships in Athletics.
